a weekend away
NYC. What a crazy, lively, busy, tiring place! Jason and I got a rare chance to head down for two days without the kid. It was a lot of fun, and we got to enjoy some time eating and relaxing just the two of us. It is funny, though, the things that seem the most special to me these days: like being able to sit quietly on a 5 hour bus ride (and not worry about how to keep a kid occupied/quiet), or sleeping in in the morning, or walking through a crowded place without a stroller in hand. But of course, the food, friends, and show were all great too!
The trip also gave Jason and I a chance to start some bigger-picture conversations: things like, do we have a joint vision/mission in our marriage, what is the underlying purpose behind our daily activities, are our hearts concerned with things that are eternal, are we living out life to the full extent that God intended, are we living out our faith and values currently and in our future trajectory? We may have thought about these things as individuals, but in the context of marriage and family, it becomes a whole new beast. Obviously, these are long-term conversations without necessarily easily packaged answers (and probably constantly evolving too), but getting a start on them felt good.
It's nice to get a weekend away sometimes. :)
