Supper Club

On Saturday, I prepped all day for this dinner. Although I've cooked countless meals for 10, 12, 20 people...this one was different. This wasn't a single pot, simple salad kind of meal. This was one that required fore-thought, planning, preparation and a whole lot of cooking. A meal where the goal was not just to feed empty stomaches, but to (hopefully) stimulate and satisfy some taste buds too. Some courses turned out better than others, but without further a-do, this is what I did all day Saturday (all pictures compliments Phil Lau):

It was a cool experience putting a meal like this together, and definitely makes me appreciate the hard work that chefs do. As I've said before, although I wouldn't necessarily want the pressure that comes with being a chef, I do oh-so-love feeding people and creating space to enjoy a lesiurely meal.

Sewing for the Home

Now that we are more or less settled into our new home, we've taken our family vacation down south (Alabama and Nashville), and we've gotten into somewhat of a routine for the fall, I've finally gotten around to thinking about some home projects that have been waiting to be done. And this weekend, I got myself to a fabric store and worked on the first of the (hopefully many) sewing projects for the home.

The picture above shows a simple curtain for our guest bedroom, which will be occupied for the next few months by some good friends starting TODAY. As you can see, the door is glass, which affords no privacy! I've had another curtain (which did not fit well at all) on it for awhile, but have been itching to make a custom one--one that fits the width and length of the glass, and one that looks, well, fun and bright! I am loving the Anthology fabric, and am quite pleased by the happy colors, the geometric shapes, and the way it livens up the room.

Several of our bedrooms let in a lot of light - which is wonderful when we're not sleeping, but really need curtains for sleepy mornings. So I've been thinking more about curtains. And table clothes. And pillows. And quilts! So many things to dream about. Nonetheless, I bought myself a pattern for a tunic shirt this weekend (yes, Amy Butler!), even though I should be sewing more curtains. Priorities, you know. We shall see what comes next out of my sewing machine.
